Marmont aims to retain Pro Lite title at Australian Motocross Championship

>Reigning Australian Pro Lite Motocross Champion Ryan Marmont, is
determined to hold onto his number one plate and secure valuable points
needed to retain his title, as round two of the Australian Motocross
Championship comes to Penguin in Tasmania this Sunday April 12th.
With support from Motorex KTM Racing his factory team, Ryan Marmont
is putting the opening round behind him and grinding motos on the KTM
250 SX-F to ensure he is ready, fit and able to take on his rivals.
A heavy crash at the opening round saw Ryan fly over his motorcycle,
hitting the ground so hard he broke his handlebar mounts and his
Leatt-Brace neck brace which left him concussed and out of the race.
The accident meant Ryan could only take home 15 points from his first
race which has placed him 13th outright in the Pro Lite Championship
to date, a position he is not used to as reigning Australian Champion.
Commenting on his preparation for the Penguin round Ryan said, “The
opening round at Broadford certainly didn’t turn out the way I planned it,
but it happens to the best of racers and I can only put it behind me
and work on some serious training leading up to Tasmania this weekend.
“I was coming off the back of an ankle injury during the supercross
season which didn’t help my fitness in preparation for the motocross
season, and now I’m feeling quite bruised and battered following the
motocross opener, but it was a wake up for me as well, that I need to
stay very focused on what my goal is for the Championship.
“I want to retain my number one plate but I want to do it uninjured and
with consistency. I may not have to win every round but I have to be on
the podium so that is what I will be aiming for at Penguin this weekend.”
Training alongside Ryan leading up to Penguin will be his older brother
and Motorex KTM team mate Jay Marmont, who will contend the Pro Open class.
Jay is also nursing his own injuries since returning from competing with KTM
Factory Racing in the USA. Riding the KTM 450 SX-F, Jay Marmont currently
sits 4th in the Pro Open Championship only one point behind 3rd outright. Fullnoise.com.au - April 19 2007 - story & photo from Fullnoise.com
