Daryl Hurley wins "Training Day" -ozzy go- fullnoise

New Zealand's annual Queen’s Birthday motocross at Tokoroa is many
things to many people.

To Kiwi internationals Daryl Hurley, Cody Cooper and Damien King, it was an ideal
opportunity to sharpen up their skills and build their fitness and that spelled trouble
for the domestic riders at Tokoroa.

Suzuki’s Hurley was unbeaten in the open class at Tokoroa, although the results
were less important to him than spending valuable time on his bike.

The 31-year-old is approaching the midway stage of his Australian campaign,
a series in which he’s currently second in the standings. Similarly for Cooper,
running third in the Australian championships, Tokoroa was a good opportunity
to train against some of the elite Kiwi-based riders.

Former Taranaki man King confessed to being below his best, after not having
raced for several weeks, but that was not apparent to his 125cc class rivals on
Sunday.

The 31-year-old King, who now calls Waikato his home, was unbeaten on his YZF
model Yamaha, taking the title by 17 points from Taupo 16-year-old Brad
Groombridge (Kawasaki KX250F).

Riding a larger capacity bike, King also finished third overall in the open class,
behind Hurley and Cooper (Honda).

In the day’s final open class outing, King was caught in a turn-one pile-up.
He recovered his bike and hunted down the leaders, passing almost the entire
field and eventually finishing the race fifth.
