Australia’s World Supercross luminary Chad Reed has secured the runner-up titles in
the 2007 FIM World Supercross Grand Prix Championship and the Amp’d Mobile AMA
Supercross Championship after enduring a frustrating penultimate round of both
series at Seattle’s Qwest Field tonight.
For the first time this season Reed missed the podium, finishing sixth after an
incident on the opening lap of the 20-lap Main Event forced him into the mechanics
area for repairs.
Reed rejoined the race dead last and put in a gallant effort to get back into the top
ten but unfortunately his Championship fate was sealed when rival James Stewart
won the race putting both titles out of reach.
With more than 50 points separating him from Tim Ferry, the third placed rider in
both series, Reed is guaranteed the runner-up titles but said after an extremely
difficult season due to injuries he would be looking to finish the year with a win at
Las Vegas.
“I had one last shot at the title tonight but once I went down on the opening lap it
was pretty much over,” Reed said. “It was always going to be a tough ask carrying
injuries through the first half of the season. We were 12 rounds in before I felt like I
had the speed I had in previous years.” “I have to say congratulations to James he
had a faultless season and is a deserving Champion.” “We have one round left at
Las Vegas next weekend I really want to focus on taking the win and setting the
scene for next years Championship,” Reed added.
The final round of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series will be held at
Las Vegas’s Sam Boyd Stadium on Saturday 5th May.
