No luck for Tyla Rattray in Portugal -ozzy go- superwheels.co.za

South Africa’s top motocrosser, Tyla Rattray, continued his alternating fortunes at the Agueda circuit and the MX2 Grand Prix of Portugal, leaving the venue south of the city of Porto with a fifth position and a non-finish to show for his efforts. The factory KTM rider rued his poor luck at the third round of fifteen in the FIM Motocross World Championship. Hot sunshine and a decent 18,000 crowd watched over a lacklustre start in the first moto – that meant he had to work hard for the entire duration of the 35 minutes and 2 laps distance to make sure of fifth spot – and then a mechanical problem while racing in the top ten stopped the Durban-born racer in the formative stages of the second sprint. The 21-year-old was impressive in his first moto and crawled all over the back of fellow countryman Gareth Swanepoel in a last lap charge all the way to the flag. The track was demanding in the relentless pace and concentration it demanded and by the time of the second outing for both MX2 and MX1 classes the course was far bumpier and rougher. Rattray, who won the Grand Prix here twelve months ago but then dislocated his shoulder back in 2005, did not have much time to tackle the undulations in Moto2 in what must surely be a dent to his world title aspirations, particularly with Italian Antonio Cairoli ...
