Chad Reed touching down in Sydney today to get ready to race in Newcastle this weekend

Home grown international Supercross star Chad Reed touches down in Australia today
ahead of Round 4 of the Nokia MX Nationals to be held this Sunday 20 May at Barleigh
Ranch in Raymond Terrace, north of Newcastle.

Despite a steady refurbishing over the past 8 years, the Barleigh Ranch track has
undergone a complete make-over in anticipation of Reed’s guest appearance on
Sunday.

Reed’s father Mark and brother Troy have been working at Barleigh Ranch for several
days upgrading the track with a new bobcat. The circuit, renowned for its challenging,
rocky terrain has been covered with 25,000 tonnes of soil to ensure the surface is world
standard, not just for Reed, but for our own elite riders and emerging young talent.
Mark Reed said he is looking forward to seeing Chad ride at home again. “We have
focused on reducing how rocky the track is and on making it wider so that there are
now a good six lines around the circuit rather than just one,” he said. “The lay-out of
the track is similar to previous years with a few modifications.” Mark is philosophical
about the possibility of Chad being beaten by one of the Series riders, “The thing with
Motocross, is you just never know,” he said.

Jay Foremen Team Manager of the Shift Motul Suzuki Team was also lending his
expertise at the track on Tuesday to ensure that the surface will be at its fastest and
most spectacular. “The track is looking great. It’s by far the best Raymond Terrace
track yet. The rocks have been covered and the narrow parts have been widened for
faster, safer racing which should also open up more lines, rather than having a single
line,” he said.

Current series leader, Daniel Reardon, will be joined by defending champion Craig
Anderson and Suzuki Star Daryl Hurley, as Australia’s hottest young riders line up
to go head to head with Reed at the modified Barleigh Ranch track on Sunday.
There is no denying that Round 4 is shaping up to be the Motocross event of the
year. mcnews.com.au
