New Zealanders at Broadford's Nokia MX Nationals -ozzy go- BikeSportNZ.com

It did not quite go according to plan for the Kiwis.
New Zealanders are placed third, fifth and 10th in the open
class standings after the opening round of the Australian
Motocross Championships near Melbourne at the weekend.
Darryll King’s third overall was a fine achievement for the
37-year-old who was there just to keep the seat warm for
injured Yamaha rider Matt Moss, but a ranking of fifth for
former champion Daryl Hurley (Suzuki) and 10th for pre-season
favourite Cody Cooper (Honda) was not what the Kiwis wanted.
King (Yamaha) finished in 4th and 5th respectively, a solid
start to the season from the three-time former Australian
champion. It is still uncertain whether King, the current
New Zealand 250cc and 500cc champion, will contest any of
the following rounds. Hurley had a difficult start to the day at
Broadford, beginning with a lap-one crash in the first Pro Open
moto. Clawing his way back through the pack, Hurley was
progressing strongly until a wayward rock struck him in the eye
and shattered his goggles, leaving him with severe bruising to
his right eye and reduced visibility, eventually crossing the
line in ninth. Rapidly gathering momentum, Hurley was running in
aclear second place in moto two before the race was red-flagged.
