Katherine Prumm TransworldMx Interview -ozzy go-

Catching Up With Katherine Prumm
The name Katherine Prumm should ring a bell for American
fans of women’s motocross, as the likable New Zealander
traveled to the United States last year to contest the first
four rounds of the AMA/WMA Women’s Motocross National
Championship Series. During her stay, Prumm proved to
be the most consistently fast rider on the track and looked
set to earn her first WMA championship. When she failed
to show at the final two rounds, however, the championship
went to defending champ Jessica Patterson and left a big
“what if?” looming over the series. We caught up with
Prumm shortly after she scored a solid win at the FIM
Women’s Motocross Cup at the Uddevalla GP of Sweden...

Ben Townley defies illness to finish on podium at Red Bud

It was unsure if Ben Townley would make the starting line for
round 5 of the AMA Toyota Motocross championship in Buchanen,
Michigan this weekend.

The 22-year-old New Zealander was hospitalized after
complaining of nausea and further stomach cramps which may
have been an allergic reaction to the anti-nausea medication
administered by medical staff at the Red Bud circuit. ‘BT’ was
later released from hospital around midnight on Saturday and
given the green light to race after thorough medical examinations
had ruled out suspected appendicitis or any other medical illness.

Townley put a sleepless night behind him and focused on putting
together two strong and consistent results in front of over 29.000
enthusiastic spectators that had turned out under magnificent
weather and track conditions..

Townley trailed fellow Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/ Kawasaki
team-mate, Ryan Villopoto, in the first MX Lites moto but tried to
turn the tables in the second moto. ‘BT’ grabbed the RACER-X
hole-shot award and lead for the first half of the 30 minute race
with Villopoto right on his back wheel. The crowd loved every
moment of the duel between the two Kawasaki’s. Villopoto finally
found his was past and managed to pull a small gap over
Townley to take the win, with BT settling for second.

“Saturday was a tough ordeal but I don’t really think it had any
effect on today’s racing” commented Townley. “I got two good
starts and was second behind Ryan in the first moto but he
managed to gap me again. I tried to close him down towards
the end but it was too little too late. I was happier with moto 2.
We had an awesome race and I felt really good on the Red Bud
track - it was so much fun and I haven’t raced on circuit like that
in a long time. I even started doing “Larocco’s Leap” in the
second moto which is just wide open on a 250F.”

Townley holds a 20 point deficit over team-mate Villopoto but
will be looking to bridge that gap in two weeks time when riders
and race teams will head to the infamous Unadilla circuit in New
Berlin, NY for round 6 of the 12 round. Fullnoise.com.au

Bronte Holland Fullnoise Interview -ozzy go-

This week we catch up with Bronte Holland to find out
how his recovery is going and about moving out of rehab.

Holland was one of the hottest properties on the
motocross scene as his riding began to mature and
he had gained the speed to make him a genuine
contender at any race in the country. His accident
sent shock waves through the Australian motocross
community and the impact of his accidenthas seen
a huge awareness of spinal injury in the sport.

Whilst for many of us the time has flown for Bronte
it has been a long slow rehabilitation process with
days filled with highs and demoralising lows.
Currently entering the final days of his program at
the Talbot Rehabilitation Centre in Kew, Victoria,
the Hurricane is about to make his way back into
day to day life so we stopped by to have a chat with
him on some of the finer details of where he is at.

Tyla Rattray makes best of unfortunate Swedish outing -ozzy go-

Tyla could only take a highest result of third in the second race
of the Grand Prix of Sweden under bright but cloudy skies at
Uddevalla for the ninth round of fifteen in the 2007 FIM MX2
World Championship. The 21 year old twisted his knee in the
first sprint and bravely guided his works KTM machine to a top
three berth later in the day to scoop ninth position overall.

Uddevalla, crowded by 28,900 fans, again offered a rough and
technical prospect to the world’s fastest off-road motorcycle
riders. The Scandinavian circuit has been a staple member of
the world championship calendar since the start of the century
and the well-organised event again showed signs of its quality
with further upgrades to the course that included a new start,
first corner and repositioned pit-lane. The terrain itself was
soft – especially after copious amounts of rain leading up to
the meeting – and in sections offered a choice in racing lines
but the tight and compact nature of the narrow layout meant
that overtaking was tricky.

Rattray entered the gate for the two 35 minute and 2 lap motos
in third position. He started averagely in the opening sprint and
was dragged down on the first corner by Antonio Cairoli. A
charge from the rear of the field was curtailed after a flurry of
laps as he caught and twisted his left knee in the ground just
prior to the finish line jump. The Durban-born GP winner pulled
into the pits in pain and fearing the worst but rest, icing and
strapping before the second moto enabled Rattray to take to
the line for the second time.

Moto2 saw an understated but effective performance as ‘Styla’
held fourth position for long periods and finally was promoted
to third for his ? top three finish from eighteen races.

“I did not get the best start in the first moto and went down on
the first corner with Cairoli,” he reflected. “I got back to about
tenth but I put my foot down just before the jump over the finish
and I twisted my knee pretty badly. I came into the pits straight
away because I knew it was not good. It started to swell a little
bit but we iced it and I was ready for the second moto. I had a
good jump but could not do much from the fourth and third
positions I was running. I caught the knee at least twice more in
that race and I was a bit unsure, so I took it easy. The track was
really rough but it was good and I would have enjoyed it more if
I didn’t have to worry about my leg."

Swanepoel finishes strong at swedish MX GP

Round 9 of the FIM Motocross world championship series has seen
Molson Kawasaki racer, Gareth Swanepoel achieve a mixed result
on a re-designed Uddevalla circuit.

Swanepoel placed third in his Saturday qualification race ensuring
a good starting gate for the first MX2 moto on Sunday. The South
African was unable to get a good jump on the gate which had been
laid with gravel and emerged in the top ten before going down
on lap three. He clawed his way back from 16th place however
another error would seal Swanie’s fate as he hit the Swedish dirt
again. With twisted bars he managed to salvage 16th spot.

After re-assessing his first moto mistakes ‘Swanie’ focused on
making no more unforced errors as the gate dropped for the
second moto. He kept a tight line going into the first turn and
completed lap one in 9th place. Fast consistent laps moved the
Molson Kawasaki up the ladder and Swanie set his fastest time of
the race on lap twelve. With five minutes to go, he was catching
fourth place rider Rui Goncalves at a rapid rate and was handed
fourth spot when Goncalves’ engine failed. ‘Swanie’ finished less
than three seconds adrift of fellow South African, Tyla Rattray.

“The first moto was disastrous! I didn’t get a good start and went
off the track in the whoop section and ended up in a deep gully.
I got going pretty well and caught up again but then crashed and
bent my bars and struggled from there. The second start was not
much better but I took my time and got into a good rhythm. I
made great progress through the pack and finished a strong
fourth which I was happy with.” explained Swanepoel.
‘Swanepoel’ will return to the UK next weekend for the 6th round
of the British MX championship before traveling to the re-scheduled
10th round of the GP series in FAENZA, Italy.

Coppins concedes in Sweden

Factory Yamaha Rinaldi rider, Josh Coppins has experienced his
toughest GP of the 2007 World Motocross championship at a re-
designed Uddevalla circuit in Sweden.

Suffering from a bout flue coming into the event, Coppins knew
his goal would be to limit any loss of points in the MX1 title chase.
He battled to get a quick jump in the first moto with a newly laid
gravel start and lost his rhythm in the opening laps as riders
were jostling for positions. Coppins settled in 6th place and
focused on catching championship rival Steve Ramon. He pushed
past the Belgian with four laps to go and secured 4th spot at the
checkered flag.

Coppins missed out on a much needed good start in moto 2 and
had his work cut out from the time the gate dropped. He traded
positions with Tanel Leok and Billy McKenzie losing time to
leaders Ken de Dycker and Steve Ramon. With Ramon moving
to the front in the later stages of the race, Coppins posted a 6th
place finish, losing championship points to the Belgian.

“It’s been a bad weekend for me,” admitted Coppins. “I had no
physical power and never felt good all weekend - I just struggled.
The other guys were all really fast and were attacking and I
couldn’t retaliate. I didn’t get good starts in any of the moto’s
which didn’t help out all. I have managed to limit the amount of
points lost and still have a comfortable lead but am disappointed
with today.”

The New Zealander still holds the championship red plate with an
89 point advantage over Belgium’s Steve Ramon, going into the
10th round which will be held in Faenza, Italy in two weeks time.

Coppins secures fifth in Sweden -ozzy go- yamaharacing.com

Yamaha Motocross Team Josh Coppins missed the podium for the
first time in the 2007 FIM MX1 Motocross World Championship as
the New Zealander finished fifth overall at a cloudy and cool
Uddevalla, 100kms north of Gothenburg, for the Grand Prix of
Sweden. The ninth round of fifteen in the GP series was however
noticeable for Antonio Cairoli’s eighth success in the MX2 class
and a quite remarkable performance from the De Carli Yamaha
rider in the opening moto.

The circuit several kilometres outside the town of Uddevalla has
been a World Championship regular since the start of the century
– in fact one of only two venues to remain ever-present on the
FIM calendar from the turn of the millennium. The layout had
been reversed from the 2006 edition and a new start and first
corner, along with a repositioned pit-lane, was in place for the ’07
event. The track offered its usual winding and tight test and the
terrain was softer thanks to large amounts of sand being mixed
with the mud and incessant rainfall in the build-up to the Grand
Prix. The giant rocky hill overlooking the facility gave ample
viewing opportunities to the 28,900 crowd who scaled the
inclines.

Coppins had taken sixth position in Timed Practice on Saturday
and did not push for a fast lap and risk a crash on a surface that
was far wetter and slipperier than the races on Sunday. The New
Zealander made a safe first moto by obtaining a slot inside the
top five and setting a reel of consistent laps to plant himself in
the front group. He was strong at the end to pass title rival Steve
Ramon for fourth place. The 30 year old, who had been suffering
with flu during the week, again struggled to hit the same lap-
times as the leaders in the second outing and dropped to eighth
at one stage before rallying back to sixth position. The day was
an exercise of caution for the championship pace- setter on the
YZ450FM and his fifth place overall was a steady result on a track
that was hard for overtaking.

Coppins still holds an impressive 89 point lead over Ramon who
was runner-up to debut winner Ken de Dycker. Josh’s advantage
constitutes more than three motos and almost two Grand Prix
with just six rounds remaining. He had five wins, one second
position and two third places prior to Sweden.

The Yamaha Motocross Team will now look ahead to their second
home Grand Prix of the season as round ten of the series heads
to the Faenza circuit near Riminy, Italy in two weeks time. July’s
schedule also sees a trip to the Czech Republic at the end of the
month. click on ozzy go to the full coverage on Yamaha Racing

Katherine Prumm closes in on world title -ozzy go- fullnoise

New Zealand’s Katherine Prumm closed to within one point of the
championship lead as her women’s world motocross championship
defence hit the midway stage in Sweden at the weekend.

The 19-year-old from Bombay, in South Auckland, led a Kawasaki
1-2-3 to the top of the podium at Uddevalla, Sweden, on Sunday.

Prumm (Molson Kawasaki KX250F) was by far the fastest rider on
the track but a poor start in the first race cost her and she had to
settle for third, behind Germany’s Stephanie Laier (KTM) and
France’s Livia Lancelot (Kawasaki).

Prumm made amends in the next race, winning easily, taking the
day’s overall honours and making her favourite again to win the
world crown she first picked up last season.

Joining her on the Swedish podium were fellow Kawasaki riders
Lancelot, who was second overall, and Maria Franke (Germany),
third. Lancelot is the new championship leader, taking the top
spot from previous leader Larissa Papenmeier (Germany, KTM),
who managed only fourth overall in Sweden on Sunday, but
Lancelot has no breathing space with Prumm just one point
behind her and with one round in the Women’s World Cup series
still to come.

Prumm was disappointed after finishing fourth overall at the
opening round in Teutschenthal, Germany, three weeks earlier,
but now has her campaign back on track. “It really was an
awesome result for her to come back like that,” said Kawasaki
Team Green New Zealand manager Mike Ramsey.
The third and final round of the Women’s World Cup will be in
Lierop, in The Netherlands, on September 2.

Shell Honda's Lewis Stewart Dominates In Mackay

Honda Pro Lite rider Lewis Stewart proved he has what it takes
by winning both motos at Mackay in what many have described
as a turning point in his career. "I can't believe it! The boys had
my CRF 250 running sweet; I claimed two holeshots and never
looked back," Stewart said. "The week in between Toowoomba
and Mackay worked well for me as we tested, rode and trained
hard to prepare. I can't believe the difference between flying,
resting and training properly and driving to a track when you
are tired." "The technical advice and support I got as a rider
for a factory team made a big difference. Troy (Dorron) was
great and my mechanic Darren did an awesome job. I am not
sure what's happening with Wonthaggi and for the rest of the
year, but I can say this experience has given me motivation to
work harder to get a better ride for next year," he added.

Peter Boyle also rode well to claim seventh overall on the day.
His consistent results have placed him back inside the top ten,
and he is looking forward to improving his position before the
series ends. "I rode well, but still need to be riding harder and
faster. There are some things I will change before Wonthaggi,
and I hope those changes will make a difference," Boyle
commented. "This has been a steep learning curve and after
only four years of racing, I am happy - but not content yet -
with where we are heading."

Unfortunately, Danny Anderson, who now sits third in the
Championship, did not have a great weekend. "I was looking
forward to this weekend. I felt confident, but everything seemed
to go bad. My starts weren't great and I crashed in the first moto.
Overall the weekend was extremely disappointing. I can only
look ahead and remain positive. Second overall is still within
reach."

Assisting Team Manger Troy Dorron, Team Owner Yarrive
Konsky and Honda Australia are all extremely pleased with
the weekend, and Stewart's results in particular. "Lewis rode
superbly and flawlessly. It was awesome to watch," Dorron said.
"Peter was consistent and earned some valuable points. Before
round eight at Wonthaggi, we need to work with Danny on some
sand tracks. I know he has the ability; we just need to give him
some better opportunities to ride sand and prepare for the next
couple of rounds." The team will next compete in the Australian
Motocross Championships on Sunday, 22nd July, 2007 at
Wonthaggi, VIC.

Hurley Claims 2nd In Mackay -ozzy go- SuzukiMotorcycle.com.au

Team Shift Motul Suzuki’s Daryl Hurley claimed second place in
round seven of 2007 Australian Motocross Championship at Gum
Valley near Mackay (QLD), this weekend.

Battling a severe head cold, Hurley delivered superb
performances under difficult circumstances, making the holeshot
in race one before being passed by series leader, Daniel Reardon
in the early stages of the moto.

With fellow Suzuki rider, Troy Carroll hot on his heels in third
place, Hurley eventually managed to pull a gap and wrapped up
the first 30-minute moto in second spot with an 8.049s advantage
over Carroll.

The 31-year-old dug deep in moto two, launching into second
place out of the start gates, Hurley passed Jay Marmont to
assume the lead on lap one. Further shuffling of positions saw
Reardon take the lead ahead of Marmont with Hurley in third
as the trio completed the opening lap. Exhausted, Hurley came
under supreme pressure as race two wore on and was forced
to use all his resources to hold on to third place, securing
second overall for the round.

Carroll piloted his Suzuki RM-Z450 to fourth overall at Gum
Valley.

Again stepping up from the U19 Australian Motocross
Championship category to represent Team Shift Motul Suzuki,
Lawson Bopping’s fortunes were less favourable in the Pro Lites
class. Qualifying second fastest, Bopping again proved his
outstanding raw speed on the RM-Z250... click on ozzy go to the full story

MX GP - Second half of the season to start in Uddevalla -ozzy go- motocrossmx1.com

Ferris sensational in Pro Lites debut -ozzy go- eatmydirt.com.au

GYTR/ Yamaha Queensland Dealer Team racer, Dean Ferris,
showed age is no boundary as he made a stunning Pro Lites
debut at round six of the Nokia MX Nationals held on the rough,
rutted and undulating Echo Valley circuit in Toowoomba.

Ferris, who’s star has been on the rise all season, sensationally
thrust himself into the spot light with a resounding second place
finish in the second moto of the day and prove once and for all
that he is the real deal.

Despite qualifying in a lowly 13th position, Ferris didn’t let that
bother him and in fact took confidence from it. "I tried to pump
out three fast laps and I crashed on everyone of them. So if I
was still 13th fastest and had a little lay down each time, I knew
with a good start I was fast enough to run up the front," Ferris
commented.

Moto one burst out of the blocks and Ferris rounded the first turn
inside the top 10 and he simply went to work. He lap he picked
off riders, including several more established factory riders, with
ease and was soon in the top five. That charge bought him all the
way to third and closing on.... click on ozzy go to the full story

Crawford Back Riding at Echo Valley -ozzy go- racedeadline.com.au

Toowoomba's Echo Valley MX track hosted Round six of the Nokia
MX Nationals over the weekend with Toowoomba Honda's Nathan
Crawford again posting a top 10 result in the Pro Open class and
cementing himself in the top seven in the series after six rounds.

The Echo Valley track proved to be the most challenging on the
circuit so far, with rain falling all Saturday making the red clay
surface a quagmire and making the 30 minute motos a true test
of man and machine. Toowoomba Honda's Nathan Crawford rode
strong in both moto's to finish 8th overall for the day.

After not finishing the last round due to injury, Crawford got his
season back on track and shook off the cobwebs to post 8 -10
moto scores and to round the day out in eighth overall and
seventh in the championship. Both motos saw Crawford pick his
way through traffic after average starts to secure the top 10
finishes and he was reasonably pleased with his efforts.

"The track was really difficult today, so I am happy with my
results. I still don't think I am back to 100% after my crash at the
South Australian round but I kept myself in the points chase and
got through what has been the... click on ozzy go to the full story
